I am sure you have already heard the news that the University of Delaware has decided to cut their Men's Cross-Country and Track and Field programs. This is a huge blow, not only to current team members and alumni for those programs, but for the whole Delaware running community and runners throughout this region.
I wanted to make you aware that there is going to be a meeting with Bernard Muir, the A.D. the University of Delaware, for all UDXC and UDTF alumni and members of the Delaware running community to attend. We will be discussing the University of Delaware's decision to "reclassify" the men's cross-country and track and field programs. The meeting will be taking place in the auditorium at the Bob Carpenter Center at 6:00 PM on Thursday 2/3/11. The Bob Carpenter Center is located at 631 South College Avenue Newark, DE 19716. The auditorium is on the first floor of the Bob Carpenter Center directly across from the main entrance. Unfortunately there is also a women's basketball game on the same date at the same location at 7:00 PM. So, anyone that attends the meeting will need to have their name on the attendance list.
If you care to attend the meeting, please email me your first and last name and I will make sure you are on the attendance list.
If you share this information with any other UD Cross-Country and Track and Field alumni or members of the Delaware running community, please ask them to email me at JAGrun511 at aol.com with their first and last name so that they can be put on the list of attendees. If anyone's name is not on the list they will have to pay for a ticket to the women's basketball game in order to enter the building and to attend the meeting.
I have requested this meeting with Bernard Muir so myself and any other alumni interested in attending the meeting could voice our concerns regarding the "reclassification" of the men's cross-country and track and field programs in person. We are being realistic and understand that the University of Delaware is probably not going to change their mind, but we just want our voices to be heard, and to hopefully hear a better explanation from Bernard Muir and the University as to why this decision was made. We hope that all of the facts come out of the meeting and that we come away with a better understanding of why the programs were cut. We also know that we have to do something, because if we do nothing the University of Delaware will just think that this decision was OK. Perhaps if we put up a fight, we can prevent this from happening to other programs at other Universities and Colleges across the country. We mainly just wanted to provide an opportunity for alumni to voice their concerns in person, rather than through a letter or an email.
Please help to spread the word about this meeting to any alumni or members of the Delaware running community that may be interested in attending the meeting.
