COURSE: The mansion was built by Harry Lunger and Jane du Pont Lunger in the 1930s. The course is exactly 5 kilometers of off-road grass trails. This is one of the more challenging 5K courses on the east coast with 400 foot elevation climbs and rolling ranges. The course starts with 300 downhill meters, winds through elevated climbs and rolling ranges, over two foot bridges and through a pine tree alley, and concludes with a fast-finish half mile, terminating in the backyard of the mansion. Runners of all levels and walkers are encouraged to experience this beautiful property! DETAILS: Best footwear for this course is a spiked shoe, but racing flats or running shoes also work. Officiated by Delaware Race Timing, the $25 registration includes timing chip. Trail Map and Award Levels listed in the FAQs - bitly.com/RunFest15.

MORE: Run Fest on Oct. 11 includes the 5K and Splatter Dash(tm) -- a short, non-competitive colorful fun run/walk, where runners get doused with colored powder throughout the 1.5 mile course. Run Fest is a fund raiser for Children & Families first, a statewide organization in Delaware that exists to help children adversity on their journey to adulthood. We make a difference statewide with a comprehensive suite of programs (more than 20) that use proven methods to help at-risk families raise their children so they can flourish. Everything from visiting nurses who help moms have healthy babies (nurses stay with moms from pregnancy through 2 years of age) to Functional Family Therapy (to keep struggling families intact and their kids out of the foster care system), school/academic enrichment, food and nutrition, welfare to work, and more.
